reprime and tons and tons of wet sanding with a block, then prime some more and block again. keep doing this until you cant see the cracks, helps if you take a rattle can of flat black and dust over the primer then sand it will show the low spots(black doesnt go away) and high spots(black disappears really fast).

Do I need to spray primer over the cracks or take it back to metal first? also what type of primer should I use?

you can try spot priming and sanding just over the cracks, if you want to go bare metal you'll need to do the whole truck or yor end result could end in a wavy paint job.

you need t match the primer to what ever paint you plan on using.

You picked the hardest color to paint for being new to body work, rattle primer won't work, like others have said lay nice coats of good primer on it, block sand using flat black guide coat to show lows/highs then repeat, bed included. If you want good gloss black paint job the body MUST be perfect before paint!

well you guys sound like you know a good bit, Im really wanting a good turnout so do you guys think I should bring the truck back to bare metal? or continue to spot this (orielly) primer that is already on it, and what kind of primer should I use. I'd think maybe spraying a quality primer over this auto parts store stuff id see a difference in the final result

PPG makes very high quality auto paint/primer. You could spray it over existing as long as everything is scuffed and clean
