primer cracking fix?
hey guys not sure if Im posting in the right place but im finally starting to finish primer sanding my 91 that I bought and the previous owner looks to have sprayed the primer and left it under a tarp Im wet sanding with 600 grit and im starting to notice a lot of hair line cracks in the primer and I need advise on what to do with them? Im going to paint it a gloss black and I really dont want them to show (ps im new to body work)
reprime and tons and tons of wet sanding with a block, then prime some more and block again. keep doing this until you cant see the cracks, helps if you take a rattle can of flat black and dust over the primer then sand it will show the low spots(black doesnt go away) and high spots(black disappears really fast).
you can try spot priming and sanding just over the cracks, if you want to go bare metal you'll need to do the whole truck or yor end result could end in a wavy paint job.
you need t match the primer to what ever paint you plan on using.

ok can I spray over them with rattle can primer? also the bed of the truck is factory paint and in good condition should I sand it down and primer it or can I sand it with 600, paint and it match the cab that is primer already?
You picked the hardest color to paint for being new to body work, rattle primer won't work, like others have said lay nice coats of good primer on it, block sand using flat black guide coat to show lows/highs then repeat, bed included. If you want good gloss black paint job the body MUST be perfect before paint!

well you guys sound like you know a good bit, Im really wanting a good turnout so do you guys think I should bring the truck back to bare metal? or continue to spot this (orielly) primer that is already on it, and what kind of primer should I use. I'd think maybe spraying a quality primer over this auto parts store stuff id see a difference in the final result
