Default What Is It?

Ok, I have either a clutch or tranny issue of some kind. Sitting still, engine running, she won't go into gear 90% of the time. If you shut it off. Put it in gear and start the engine, clutch feels fine, starts to engage about mid stroke offs the floor....feels like the clutch is ok, can shift between gears just fine when moving, but with engine running, stopped, can't get into gear, and if you try harder you can feel gears flipping in each other or something....at least that's the feeling. What is it? We'll take the 7th caller.....
Thanks guys and gals!

Sounds like shift forks are bad . But you could still have more than one problem .

Can you replace the forks through the top or does it require dropping the transmission?

Pull carpet back seat out and the access plate off and then you can get to the top plate of the tranny. Make sure before you pull the top plate off the tranny is in neutral .

Gotcha....that's what I thought. I've replaced the little rubber plugs in the top of the tranny before, but never had the top off. Are they pretty easy to get to and replace from there?
