Default URGENT: Engine Surging?

Truck started doing this, I found the upper rad hose loose. Maybe stretching from the cold and heat so I tightened it.

Problem went away - now truck is doing this? The hell?

Watch RPMs at idle. Possibly a TPS? Or?

My last resort is running a can of seafoam through. Only other odd thing I've noticed was a bit more than avg smoke coming out of the tailpipe but I think it's just due to cold. I see new rigs flying around with constant exhaust flow.

EDIT:

Hopefully I can get this figured out today for my lady drives my truck and this is my last day off before I head to the USA for a week and she'll have no form of transportation.

No dice. I couldn't figure it out and neither could two friends of mine. My father in law suggested replacing my rad hoses upper and lower. Idk if thatd do anything though and its friggen freezing out. Any suggestions? Also looking at my rad bottom centre it looked as if it were wet. But I'm guessing that was from when te upper hose was loose and hit the fan in the shroud whipping it everywhere. Going to power wash it tonight and see how clean it looks after.

By chance is it doing it with the AC on? What does it do if you unplug the IAC? Have you checked the voltage on the TPS?

When we moved the ac and turned it off and on it would make it surge abit then it stoppe having effect? Does that mean anything specific? My mechanic friend said not to worry about it. Or put some pepper in the rad. My brain told me thats a dumb idea though. Also what should voltage on Tps be? I'll check it when i go outside

You don't need one. Read the sticky in this forum that tells you how to "manually" pull codes from OBD 1.

The coolant isn't going to make the engine surge. The AC compressor puts a load on the engine when it's engaged. So the idle will drop down a little when the AC engages then jump up when it disengages. The IAC is what normally keeps the idle steady by increasing it slightly when when the AC engages then decreasing it when it disengages. The IAC could be bad, or going bad. The TPS could be reading wrong and therefore the IAC won't react like it should.

If I remember correctly the TPS voltage should be around 1v with the throttle closed and 5v with it wide open. It should also increase and decrease smoothly as the throttle moves. If it jumps erratically then the TPS is bad.

Alright my check list for tomorrow will be check voltage on the TPS. And locate the IAC on my 460 efi. It's -30 tonight so it definitely is not fun being outside doing all of these repairs.

Is there anywhere in particular the IAC would be sitting at? And how do I go abouts checking it out?
