Transmission issues
Big issues, time to research and ask opinions. Truck's a '93 F150, 5.0l V8, 5 speed manual tranny.
Been hard to get into first or reverse from stationary for a while. Helps to put it in a higher gear like 2nd to get it moving then it's mostly fine, but still hard to get into first from time to time. My feelings were that it's a clutch, but seeing as how I'm a full-time student, and broke, I've been putting it off. Creeps forward a bit at lights, etc.
Now today I was leaving for lunch break at school,.and could NOT get it into first, and, after some fighting, got it into second. Then it wouldn't come out of second. Even got the shifter to go to "neutral" area, and it was stuck in second. Went right back to school and sat there. When I went to limp it home, I was able to get it into third, and now, I have 3rd, 4th and 5th but no reverse, 1st or 2nd.
Been told by two different guys I trust greatly with vehicles that it's not the tranny, but, one says clutch, the other says slave cylinder. When I can get some money drummed up, I will be doing both, and a rear engine seal, unless someone can tell me different. Looking for good solid advice on this one, not often something has me this stumped...

Do what is free first! Rule number 1. College student dumping money into an unknown problem is not a good idea unless your parents are footing the bill.
You need to provide more information:
Is it grinding?
Does the linkage feel sloppy?
Put the emergency brake on(if adjusted properly)while in 2nd and slowly let out the clutch. Does it stall or slip?
Are the friends "that you trust" mechanics?
Do you own a shop manual?
Go back to your Alma Mater High School Auto Shop.

Been using the wife's car since, so haven't been rushing it. just bough a new clutch and slave cylinder. Also got a new rear main seal due to an unrelated leak. At any rate, yes, it grinds like hell right now, no difference in the linkage, etc etc. The more I research the more it sounds like one of the two components I listed above. No auto shop in my old schools, and the place I'm at now is a local trucking school. And, yes, one "friend" is my neighbor who's been a licensed mechanic for 34 years. Also talked a long while to my father who I have more faith in than most mechanics, and the rest of people I've asked are a mix of mechanics and non-mechanics

My apologies for not being clear!
