Default Shift clunking

My 92 5.0 AUTO shifts hard into reverse and into drive. When the engine/trans are cold its is particularly worse. It will shift hard when being put into gear and sometimes shift hard from 1st to 2nd. When i turn overdrive off it goes away a little but the problem is still there so im thinking my overdrive gear is ok. My out-put shaft is tight but the rear pinion seal and rear u-joint are somewhat questionable. Also at 70mph the whole truck begins to shake, i am in 2wheel and both hubs are free so it is not the 4x4. Any input helps! Thanks!

Sounds like u joints.

Check rear end lash too:
Put in Neutral w/ parking brake on and see how far the drive shaft turns back and forth. Shouldn't be much.
