Default Rebuilding Engine... Worthwhile upgrades?

I'm going to be pulling my 93 5.0 out of my truck sometime in the next month or two for a bench rebuild and was wondering if there were any recommended upgrades/maintenance items to do?

I was considering:
- Replacing oil pump
- Replacing water pump (depending on condition)
- Freeze plugs

Anything else recommended to do while I'm in there (short of just cleaning everything up and replacing all seals/gaskets)? Any minor upgrades like a slightly better cam or anything like that? Not looking to blow hundreds of dollars, but if there are "duh" upgrades, might as well do them now.

Thanks!

Hello I would like to tag along on this thread. I just bought a 95 F150 4x4 Supercab STICK SHIFT that I'm going to restore (stick shift is the kicker here, love them). It's not in bad shape as I helped buy it 10 years ago for my daughter and it was like new then. So now it's mine. I want to upgrade the engine and get better gas mileage for one. Cam an whatnot. So I will hope someone gives us some advice on what works and what doesn't....

E303 cam or an RV cam, mild cam that gives you good low mid rage torque and power, doesnt make your engine lope like some hot rod drag engine, ides smoothly still. other than that just give a good fresh rebuild with new stock parts, unless you want to make a high HP motor.
forgot to add- new timing chain, water pump while your at it. definitely replace your front and rear main seals, oil pump should be fine if the previous oil pressure has been good, freeze plugs should be fine, i wouldnt replace them unless they obviously look bad. have fun! upload some pics if you can, im going to be doing the same thing this summer. would like to know what kind of proablems you run into

I think the water and oil pump are in the "no brainer" department if the engine is getting a new life.

Kind of depends on what you want from the truck as far as mods... The more you beef up the engine, the more you need to consider transmission health/upgrades.
