ive got a 91 f150 with 5.0 automatic 4x4,,,,, the last couple of weeks shes been acting up, started out with a very high pitched belt noise, im sure its the smog pump ,, but since then when i go and start it on cold starts it will start and die off, after i do this a couple of times along with giving it some gas i can get to run for a min or two so i can put it in gear, then it will stay running some what,so then i start driving it and come to a stop and the idle will go up and down almost wanting to die out,,,,,,,now when i start driving down the road it will hesitate a little and sometimes it will get high rpms and then come right back down,,,,,,, had one of my friends at work say that it might be the idle control valve or the tps,,, he tested the tps and its good,so he told me it has to be the idle control valve now,,,, dont want to replace somthing if it dosnt,,, need any help with this please, also not sure but i was reading it could be the egr valve,

 

i think your buddy is on the right track. try cleaning those sensors first with a sensor safe cleaner.

 

ok thanks andrew, im also going a head and cleaning the egr valve, while im at it, any other things you could think that might help, please let me know..........
