Normally I would go more in depth with this problem myself, but as much as I work I don't have the time or a spare vehicle. This my only one. I have a 92 f150 5.0 f.i. Ex. Cab short bed. The problem I'm havering is that it idles at 2,300 rpm. In park and in neutral. When I switch to a gear reverse, drove what have you. It slams in-to gear but because of how high it idles also sometimes died. When in driving if I floor it it will downshift but go like reduced power like it will actually loose speed when I floor it. It also I Has a inconsistent idle. When it's up at 2,300 it will drop to like 400 and then back up to 2,300. Speraticly. It also slams in to each gear when it shifts. The motor will not build any rpm no matter what I do.

Something still may be stored. Why is everybody always against pulling codes? It may be trying to tell you whats wrong with it!

Yeah. By pulling codes. Changing a bulb isn't pulling codes. Go through the procedure manually or with the proper code reader and see what codes get put out.

read the sticky thread on code retrieval or purchase an OBD1 Ford code reader from amazon or if you have some money to blow.. the best option, purchase a decent OBD1/2 scanner. Thats the best tool in my box. You pretty much just light money on fire trying to fix a new car without a scanner. These old trucks will tell you whats wrong for free tho.
