Leaking Tranny
I have a 1995 Ford F150 5.0/302 4x4. I have a bad tranny leak that seems to NEVER want to seal. Ive dropped the pan twice now and replaced both the rubber seal/gasket and the filter (just because I was there). This thing wont stop leaking ive tightened the hell out of the bolts and they are still tight, but still leak. The only part that I can see that leaks is near the back of the tranny pan. Its those two last bolts (10mm) that you need a swivel to get under the cross member. Maybe its coming from somewhere else? Anyone else have this problem and know a solution? Cuz buyin tranny fluid only to watch is pour on the ground whenever I park is getting old and costly.
You said you "tightened the hell out of the bolts" that may be your problem right there. Oil/trans pans should be torqued down to proper sequence and spec, you don't want to crush the gasket.
FWIW - I have had the best luck using "ATP Brand" Gasket / Filter kits - they use a composite "3rd hand" gasket. The gasket has 4 bolt holes that are smaller so you can thread bolts into them. It holds them why you lift the pan into place to tighten up.
I would recommend you remove the trans pan, with it off get a good straight edge (Level works good) and make certain the flange on the pan is straight and level. If not get a ball peen and using a piece of wood or metal in a vice to back it up - hammer flat. especially around the bolt holes. Make sure both the pan and transmission flange are clean and dry. Install the pan and torque to spec.. (I'll look up the pan TQ later tonight and post).
Also I had a leak from the extension housing on my 91 2WD and had to get a new gasket for it. While I was at it I installed a new tailhosing bushing and a new o-ring for the spedo drive.
