I have an 87 302 efi and have been trying to get it to run. Finally got it to idle and it sounds good but it stays on high idle after it warms up. And it will rev up if you so it slowly but if you do it quickly it just backfires and tries to die. There's also a loud whistling noise but I have searched searched for a vacuum leak but none found.

 

Check the fuel pressure. Check codes.

 

Sounds lime vacuum leak to , keep looking.
