Help Finding Driveshaft
I have a 1993 F-150 with a 5.0 and E4OD. I just picked up a M5OD-HD (S5-42) for a swap from a 1988 F-150/4.9L (this was the one-year option, but this trans was used in 1988-1999 F-250s). I was able to pull the front portion of the rear driveshaft, but all the yards near me are stupid and lift the trucks with forklifts and damage the shafts, so the rear portions were all bent. I'm now scouring eBay for a used rear shaft and need help determining which ones are interchangeable.
Does anyone know if the M5OD (Mazda) and the M5OD-HD (ZF S5-42) used the same rear portion of the rear drive shaft? Or do I need to look for a rear driveshaft specifically from a 1988 - 1999 F-250 with manual trans? Or do I need to specifically look for the rear portion of the rear shaft from a 1988 F-150 with the M5OD-HD (I hope not!!!)?
Also, anyone have a good recommendation on where to buy these? I'm not opposed to purchasing new if I can find it at a good price...
Thanks,
Phil

From what I've seen they seem to be the same yoke and flange style, so they bolt up. Its just the length you would have to find that matches.
I got my aluminum drive shaft for my M5OD from a 91 AOD transmission.

Hmm, what EXACTLY are you needing? I'm not sure what the "rear portion" constitutes? I mean, does this have a carrier bearing? Are you needing something that has a u-joint yoke on both ends? Or splines at one end for a slip shaft?
I ask because none of this is really all that Ford specific; any drivetrain house can sell the pcs individually, or someplace like High Angle or Tom Woods can build you a shaft; all they need to know is length & u-joint size (easily determined with calipers but probably 1330). If you can find a stock shaft w the right ends that you know is AT LEAST the length you need they're easily shortened too by most anyone with a lathe.

I have this part.......................... I don't have this part
The rear driveshaft on the donor vehicle was 2-peice with a carrier bearing. I was able to grab the front portion (trans to carrier). I think my existing shaft will be too short to modify, although I could use the front/back joints and put them on a custom shaft...

Any driveshaft shop can make it with the proper measurements. I got that portion at the junkyard, from an extended cab shortbed. Mine is a regular cab longbed. I don't think transmission matters for the rear part.
Thanks!
