Default Griity noise 2nd 4th Rev

So lately I have noticed a gritty noise when driving in 2-4-Revers. 1-3-5 (upper shifter position) smooth and quiet. What would cause the noise on all three lower shifter positions but not the upper? Happens at any speed. I thought maybe a throwout bearing but why in some gears but not others?

That depends on what transmission model the truck has. Click this, read the caption, and fill in your signature:

Have you followed the maintenance schedule? Do you use only Ford/MotorCraft parts & fluids?

No, that's the VC label, as explained in the caption if you click that thumbnail image. Click the words "your signature" in my previous post.
