Default Front Driveshaft

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have a question regarding my 1994 F150 4x4. I just had the drivers side front axle housing replaced because it was cracked. The shop basically removed the center section, axle shafts, etc and installed them in the new housing. Since getting the truck back I noticed when I have the manual hubs locked the transfer case drive shaft is also locked and is turning/spinning while driving. This is with the four wheel drive shifter in 2 wheel drive. When I shift to 4 wheel drive, the 4x4 indicator light comes on and everything works as it should. I don't think the front drive shaft should turn unless I have the shifter in four wheel drive. The manual hubs should only lock the hubs to the front axles. Did the shop reinstall the parts wrong?

The front shaft will spin with the hubs locked it, it is operating properly.

Oh. Okay. I thought the only time the front shaft is supposed to turn is when the front hubs are locked AND the shift selector was in 4 wheel drive. My front shaft is turning by just locking the hubs. So basically with the front hubs locked the tire rotation is driving the front shaft and inside the transfer case is free spinning until I put the shifter in 4 wheel drive?

Thats correct. Only time the front shaft wont spin is when both the hubs and t-case are unlocked/ in 2wd.

Okay. Thank you very much. For some reason I thought with the hubs locked the front shaft was stationary until the shifter was put in 4 wheel drive like my 2005 F250. But now I remember the F250 has the transfer case motor. Thanks again for your help and knowledge.
