agree, small cap MSD with 6AL box would be perfect.
I went with summit magnetic pickup w/ mechanical advance. I’ve already got an MSD 6A (not the 6AL) running in the truck on top of the factory ignition trying to help the factory system along. That should still work for this build I believe but if I’m wrong please let me know because I will take any feed back I can.
Thank you all for responding. I really appreciate all the insight. If there’s anyone else y’all have done on your conversions I’m open to all ideas. I’ve been wrenching for just over ten years both personally and on the military side but this is the first EFI to carb conversion I’ve done so I’m always open to learning something new.
Like I said in my first post, I want nothing to do with the factory ECU and 26Troadster says I should be good to go without it so everything is going to be a stand-alone system. From the MSD ignition system, the U.S. shift transmission controller kit, I bought I junkyard cluster with no tachometer and plan to punch out holes for analog gauges to keep the dash looking factoryish, down to the fuel system with a return less sending unit and Holley electric pump and pressure regulator.
I also went with the Edelbrock Performer dual plane intake since it’s better for torque. Any insight or opinions on if that was a good idea or not I’m open to hearing.
the olny other thing i would say is, if you are using the aod to make sure you have the tv cable (passing gear/kick down) adjusted right, if not it will destroy the trans quick.
here is a email i'll share with you.
If using our throttle and kickdown check out the SRK-4000 bracket, TC-1000HT throttle cable, and KD-2AODHT kickdown. If using our kickdown only check out SRK-4003 kickdown only bracket and KD-2AODHT kickdown. In some applications the AOD selector shaft, ATA-1000 for floor shift or ATA-1001 for column shift, is required. I have included the instructions for these products as well. Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions.
Awesome. I’m happy to hear I went with a good combo. As for the transmission, the truck has the E4OD so that requires a transmission controller kit that I will be getting from U.S. shift which will be putting the transmission on its own stand alone system. I did flirt with the idea of doing a swap to a C6, AOD or manual trans to avoid this because I thought the trans was shot but after more research I narrowed my problems to being t/c related so that saved me a lot of money since the trans is still good. This now means I can actually fix the truck this coming year now that I’m saving on just doing the t/c. I’m pretty excited about starting this project since I’ve been collecting parts for just shy of a year.
