Default E4OD hard/erratic shifting and bouncing speedometer

Hi everyone I am new to this forum so sorry if this has already been asked but I didn’t find much when I searched it so I thought id ask again! Thanks in advanced!
I have a 95 F150 with an e4OD transmission the Problems i am having are all linked from what i have read. My speedometer did not work and bounced severely when i bought the truck. So i changed the VSS to no avail this only resulted in the same speedo bounce and erratic shifting ( 1st to 2nd smooth then instead of 3rd it goes into neutral let off then back to second and so on... never tried to get it higher cause it just revs up) it wasn't drivable like this so i unplugged the connector going to the VSS this resulted in hard shifts but other than that everything was good 1st-5th normal just a little ruff! Then i tried changing the connector and about 8 inches of wire going to the VSS this still resulted in nothing! Here is the weird thing I can leave the sensor plugged in on a normal sunny day and it just doesn't read but i can drive it down the road and every gear functions normal ( still just a hard pulse for every shift) but if it is raining and the air is really damp the speedo will start to bounce a little and the erratic shifting starts ( the other day i was driving down the road after it got done raining doing around 55mph lol clearly not accurate but close, and the speedometer began to just twitch it never went over 5mph and my transmission dropped into neutral once this happened i had to pull over and unplug the sensor so it wouldn't read) once unplugged it returned to the normal hard shifting and i had every gear and once in gear all was good! I am currently driving it with the connector unplugged that way the erratic shifting stops but looking to fix this problem!

The Tachometer works fine
The battery light is on( i know voltage affects these transmissions) Alternator charges normally
ABS light is on
Check engine light is on

Voltage gauge works sometimes
the rest of the dash cluster is normal

The truck does drop into reverse hard but i believed this to be play in my rear end the same goes with drive( if i am on a hill and put it in neutral roll back some the go into reverse it is smoother) the truck goes into park like normal!

My other thoughts are the neutral safety switch but I don't want to mess with that if i don't have too cause i have heard of people toying\adjusting that and jacking the transmission all up to where it isn't even drivable!? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Sorry about the length but i tried to be detailed in describing my symptoms\problems Thanks!!

The truck also has 4:56 gear ratio in the rear end( i know this will offset the speedo sometimes) but it should still read steady right? Not cause this!

First, you have an E>4<OD. You only have 4 forward gears. Second, you admit that even your check engine light is on so why no mention of you pulling codes (take it as a hint and pull codes).

Just pull them and see what comes up. It might tell you where to start.

A good first step along with pulling codes as mentioned for this type of problem is to unplug the abs control located behind the glove box.

Is the abs control you're talking about part of the dash harness? Where exactly is it located behind the glove box(Don't remember seeing a lot of wires back there) Also how would this be different from unplugging the sensor on top of the differential? Thanks for the help!

It's directly behind the glove box. Some times it works to stop bouncing speedo.
