Default Drive shaft removal?

I've looked around but haven't found any specifics on removing a driveshaft. It's a swb with 4.9 and 5spd 2wd. Theirs 4 bolts on pinion flange but look to be a unique style. Can u-joints simply be taken out? Trying to remove trans to put clutch and slave in and looking for the easiest way possible. If anyone has done this before are there tips or tricks?

It's just a 12 point bolt. Any 12 point wrench or socket will work.

Is that the best way to pull trans?

yep, unless you want to pull the motor and trans both out of the top. way easier to un hook the driveshaft from the rear end.

Okay I went and got a 12mm 12 point socket and finally got the four bolts out. I pulled drive shaft out and now the trans crossmember seems to have 10 bolts mounting it. Is it necessary to remove trans cross member?

Yes, it's necessary to remove everything in the way.

So all 10 bolts and nuts have to be removed? Is this something that can be done with hand tools or do air tools and special purpose tools have to be used?

I recomend wrenches some of the bolts are hard to remove with a screw driverOh and you will need to lift and support the engine with a sling or jack. if you use a jack put a board between the jack and pan so as not to bend it.

If you have access to a good impact with enough air, it does help and make it faster.

Trans crossmember has 10 bolts that will need to be removed in order to remove the crossmember.
You will also need to remove the shifter, before dropping the trans.
Make sure you put it in neutral before you do it though.
2 bolts on the starter. Disconnect the Negative terminal before you touch anything.
6 bolts on the trans bellhousing.
Support the motor with a jackstand and a piece of scrap 2x4.
Support the trans with a good floor jack.
GET AN ASSISTANT!

Oh, and GET AN ASSISTANT!

If you have access to a compressor and some air tools, use'em.
If not, then it can be done with hand tools. It's just not as easy.
