Diesel?
There are many popular diesel swaps into these trucks. The main one being a Cummins 4bt turbo diesel. I thought about a 4bt swap for a while but I decided against it for these main reasons
- A Cummins 4bt weighs about 800lbs, thats a lot considering the I6 is about 500
- The proposed fuel savings (if thats what you want) are not that great and the conversion cost will buy a lot of 87 octane gas.
- My truck is a daily driver and I don't have time to convert it
My 1953 Jeep on the other hand it a different story. Its eventually going to get a Kubota V2203 turbo diesel.
Here are 2 good forums that have cover diesel swapping into just about everything.

Well, i current have the 5.0 v8. and i have a small import as a daily driver. I was unsure if the cummins swap was possible. I know i've heard of them being done in f250 but never the f150.
It's certainly possible. But it will probably get really expensive to do, and you may not be all that happy with the results.
It sounds good to say I've got a diesel in her, but in reality, they're kind of noisy and stinky and can be hard to start in the cold.
Lots of torque if you need that for hauling though.

A guy on another forum outright gave me a Perkins 4.236 that he had in a late '70s F-100 4x4. The four cylinder diesel powered that truck for almost 30 years until it developed a rod knock so he swapped a 300-six into the truck. He said even with big tires it got 26mpg. Not very fast but stump pulling torque.
I'm planning to rebuild the Perkins and stuff it into a '97 Explorer Sport 4x4.
As for my '95 F-150, my plan is to rebuild the 4.9 with high compression so I can run it on E85 and/or woodgas. Yes, I am planning a wood gasifier in the bed.
