Default Conversion Question

I have a 1996 F150 Eddie Bauer 4x4. It has a 5speed 302 in it. I would like to convert it to a w351. Is this just a direct swap? I have been getting confused with all the other posts about this conversion. So much conflicting information. Some say its a direct swap and some say you need computer and other stuff. I plan on buying a rebuilt crate engine to put in it.

THANK YOU in advance for all the help!

Pretty much bolt in. You would want the computer but you could get by without it.

You don't need the 351W computer. Especially since your '96 has mass air. Only real difference is the 351W doesn't have a knock sensor, which you can go without and not have negative consequences.

The '96 5.8 is also MAF, so the only main difference is the computer.
