Default Changing tranny fluid in a E4OD

I'm going to be change the tranny fluid in my 96 E4OD. it seems pretty simple but just want to know if there's anything I should know about or watch out for. I know the 96 and up gaskets are reusable if they look to be in good shape, the filter I got comes with a gasket, could I use thts one if mines not any good? Thanks

Most of the time the reusable one works. Just clean it up good with brake cleaner. And get the pan and the transmission clean. Just make sure it's full when done.

There should be a drain plug on the torque converter. Just turn the engine until the drain plug is on the bottom and drain the torque converter as well. Typically you will get less than half of the fluid out just dropping the pan. Draining the torque converter will be the easy part, compared to dropping the pan. They say it takes about 16 quarts of fluid to refill the transmission after dropping the pan and draining the torque converter.

Make sure the filter is installed securely. There have been cases where the filter drops out of place and then the fluid won't get sucked in properly. Some people make an extra iron to hold the filter securely. There were some kits sold on Ebay to hold the filter.

Ebay item # 151454907749. That's all I could find on Ebay right now. They had what looked like a better setup on there earlier. I saw a picture where someone had taken a couple pieces of light strap iron and bolted to the valve body bolts and was bent to fit under the filter.

.

Ok I'll get that. I have bad luck so I can see this falling out on me. And the filter I got came with a rubber gasket. If mines damaged or not reusable can I use the one I got with my filter?

Ok wasn't sure they said in the instructions to order a new one from ford but I already got this one so why spend the extra $30 if I just got one.

If you use a Motorcraft filter you don't need done add on bracket, it will hold in just fine. If you got some Fram or something then I would go ahead and order the bracket.
