Default Broken Countershaft

I have the tranny on the floor. Confirmed countershaft is broken. Would like to replace with a used trans. The tag says E8TA YE, its a manual 2wd 5speed. What should I be asking the salvage yard for? Where do I look to see if it is a t18 or other?

88 f150 rwd pickup straight 6cyl manual trans 5spd (overdrive)

Default Where to go from here

This truck is a hobby farm vehicle. So I don't want to spend too much money on the next transmission. I'd like to pick one up from a local salvage yard. Having never done that before for anything major, I'm a novice. I take it the M5OD is used in multiple model years. If I ask them for an M5OD, would they know which trucks to look at? Also, I don't mind switching to another manual rwd transmission if they have one. Which others would fit without modification?

You can get one from a 88-96 f150 with a 5spd. Just make sure you get a 2wd one.

'92-'96 is stronger but you would have to swap on your speedometer parts.

Which parts would I have to replace/swap? I prefer to go with no modification, but I noticed the speedometer part that slips into the trans housing is cracked, leaking and looking like it needs replacing anyway.

I just called a local salvage yard and they are asking me for the gear ratio. I told them it's a M5OD, gave them year and model and everything. But they said they need to know the gear ratio because they are not interchangable.

How do I figure out the gear ratio?

The rear end gear ratio? The axle code on the door jam sticker or the metal tag on your rear end.

They are wrong. You dont need your gear ratio to to replace a transmission.

Default Need help with Trans Id

I can't figure out what trans I have. That is, I need to know the ratio. I have the door sticker information. It has Trans=M, Axle=18, Spring=C V

WB=133, Type-GVW=F154, Body=DB4

Ther is a box that has no legend with two numbers in it F0146 and T0183,

I think DSO=17.

There is another sticker that says CALIBRATION on it. That number/code is 8-51F-R00, and a smaller number E8AE-6E061-ACR

Please help.
