The compressor is a high draw item, requires the most horsepower of all the accessories to spin it. It's not controlled by vacuum it's controlled by pressure.

Isn't it vacuum that controls the amount of cold put through vents? I had troubles with it blowing warm last summer and I replaced a cracked vacuum line and it started blowing cold again.

Vacuum only controls where it blows and the fresh air door.
