94 m5r2
Just picked up a 94 XLT, 5.0 with the M5R2. Drives pretty smooth in 1-4, but when you go into 5th it will disengage unless you apply a lot of pressure on the shifter constantly and when you apply gas it clicks and fights it. I can run 75 on the highway in 4th so it's not a huge pressing issue, just curious if i'm looking at a full rebuild?
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
Well, at least the 5th gear synchro needs to be replaced
A trans shop will be replacing what is needed
Most times the other two synchro's and a thrust washer or two, maybe first gear and some bearings to complete the overhaul

Much better! and that way you can hit the junkyard for 5th and a synchro that might be good with a good blocking ring
The rest of the internals are probably okay.
Replace what you can afford, it's easy to spend more than a rebuilt one costs if you start buying parts

Only in Ford school
I have seen it done (and helped)
I am a chassis master but a front end specialist
So, when I was getting my masters, along with the other front end guy, we just laughed and left the ***** out of the synchros and assembled it
They made us overhaul a trans but they never made the other heavy line boys replace any ball joints or learn alignment angles (so we were squalking)
I can help walk you through it. or come up with a book procedure
First thing you'll find is you are lacking the holding fixture and about another thousand in special tools
It can be done without all the special tools
