94 4.9L problem
Got in the truck Monday to go to work, and been driving it all week. No smoke. I don't understand why it would do that and then stop just as fast as it started. I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it. Thanks for the replies.
Just maybe possible that the drain holes in the head are almost completely plugged so when you put all the new oil in through the rocker cover it stayed up there for a very long time.
That would explain no oil on the dipstick and it would also hold oil around the valve seals which may have leaked down the valve stems to make all that smoke.
That's all I can come up with, but it makes sense I think.
Some seafoam engine treatment might help.

Clogged oil passages theory doesn't sound bad. Correct amount of oil with filter change is 6 qts. I'd go by the wrecking yard and grab a dipstick, it could have a 5.0 dipstick in it and it is shorter than one for a 4.9.
