Anyone know hard can I beat on the pitman arm before things get expensive?

Are you trying to remove it? There's a special tool to do it. Beating on it will hurt the seals and gears in the steering box.

If you hit it too much you will end up needing a steering gear box, unfortunetly I know because it happened to me.

In the process of removing the arm to replace the seal, dust cap, and C clip. It's been leaking like a sieve and I ended up ruined my steering pump by not fixing the leak. I have the puller tool but the arm is stuck good. Already bent one wrench. Wish I could get a socket up in there but there's not enough wiggle room. Im about ready to just cut it off

You haven't even got the nut off yet? Have you tried a mixture of penetrating oil and heat?

The nut came off two days ago, after twenty minutes of frustration and a couple of swear words. just couldnt get the arm to budge. I'm thinkin if I put a jack on the front end, raise it up a few inches and the punkin will drop low enough for me to get a 3/4'' drive socket on the puller tool. wish me luck 94brodyf150

I jacked the truck up and it gave me a little more room to work with. Found some air tools, might try that if they'll fit. Determined to pull the arm off without removing steering box

Arm came off with some tapping. I'm in the procces of taking the inner seals off the shaft. Not really sure the best way to remove them. Small self tapping screw and vise grips?

Use normal screws not self tapping!!! I used self tapping on my rear main and some metal shaving went the wrong direction. I had metal and plastic shavings in my crank case. Would want the same things in my steering gear box.

good call on the metal shavings. I got a tool that claims to remove seals but I think they are lying to me. Can't get anything to puncture the seal enough to get a bite. Now it's raining might be calling it quits for the day.
