Default sputtering no power

1995 f150 5.0 Once it warms up and you give it any gas (little or big) it starts sputtering and I think i hear small back fires. I initially did the codes and only got a 172 so changed my 02 sensor out.
The cat was reading hot so I went ahead and got a new cat. i pulled the o2 sensor out going to the muffler shop and it got me a little further down the road but not much. The cat was not a fix for it either
I noticed when it would act up and I would pull over to the side of the road and kill it for 5 to ? seconds, when i started up it acted normal for a few seconds and then went back to cant accelerate. Im wondering if it is a sensor that resets when i kill it or something. I know my wires dist cap etc are probably due for a change as well so wondering if that could be a problem such as an arc or something. It idles perfect and no problem starting up. I figure to clan the map next. are there any other sensors that could be doing this.
Oh and just 2 days before it started acting up passed our emissions test here in texas with no problems either. any ideas

I would look to the air intake 1st, then fuel PSI 2nd. Let us know. I anticipate you have recentyl changed spark plugs. Look in that direction/Ignition/corrosion of electrical connections next.

Since it was ran out of gas the filter or fuel pump is suspect, first to get the glug into them. The fuel pump pick up and intenals are probably glugged in the tank.

MrMom try some techron in the tank cleaning stuff up some. But your fuel pickup or filter is probly also glugged.
