Default 95 5.8 timing ping?

Very confused. When I bought this truck it ran beautiful. Plenty of power, no problems at all. I pulled my camper in a nasty head wind which pushed the truck extremely hard. At the end of the run, I had a miss and timing ping under light and moderate loads but not full throttle. I pulled the plugs and found number one spark plug had the electrode melted off. I replaced and resolved the miss but still have timing ping and poor power. Help!!!!!!!

Possible causes: #1 Faulty Distributor PIP, #2 A non-functioning knock sensor, #3 Anyone of several sensors that could be sending incorrect voltage feedback to the ECU causing a lean mixture.
Is the CHECK ENGINE light illuminated when you drive the truck? Your truck's OBD 1 diagnostics may have logged a code that will help narrow the possibilities.

No check engine light. And I changed the timing chain and gears and it seems to be a lot better. Still a little gutless but no timing ping.
