Default Will I need a Canbus???

I just bought a 2020 XLT and wanted to upgrade the headlights to either Diode Dynamics or GTR Lightning but will I need a Canbus or anything to ensure they work properly?

I use HR Supenova V.3 in my 2017 XL, and my son's 2019 XLT uses DD SL1's. Both bulb sets came with LED drivers that plugged into the bulbs on one end and the OEM headlight harness on the other. Nothing else needed. KM

PS: Forgot to add your vehicle uses a CANbus electrical system already so it not a needed add on. But some brands of LED's will need a CANbus adapter to function with your F150's electrical system. The SLI and V.3 mentioned work with the OEM CANbus. km

If you use the DRL function, you will probably need an anti-flicker (sometimes called Canbus) module.

in the last 1/2 headlights flicker but this is not noticed off camera at least by me. I feel it's more to do with frame rate while filming. Is this what your talking about? I am using DRL. KM

Depending on camera settings you will get a flicker in the camera with a lot of LEDs. I'm referring to a visible flicker. It's still not highly noticeable though, it is random, every few seconds you'll see a little flicker. At least for the cases I have reviewed. Thanks!

Basically since forever. CAN isn't any one protocol, it's a standard. 11th gens used J2284 protocol for the high-speed bus, for example, if memory serves.

Good question. Don't know that one. Best educated guess would be end of 11th gen, start of 12th. 2008 is when CANbus systems became mandatory in the US for new vehicles.
