Default Side "pool" lights for '18 XLT

Sorry if this has been covered already, anyone have any luck adding side pool lights of any sort to an '18? I'm having trouble finding threads that cover it, mostly because I'm not sure what people are calling them. My old '11 Edge SEL that my wife now drives has lights under the mirrors that come on when you unlock the car along with the marker lights. My new '18 XLT F-150 doesn't have them, though the bed light at the top of the cab comes on along with marker lights and the light in the tailgate. It leaves a big dark area right along the side of the truck that I find annoying after having light there on my other vehicle. I believe that higher trims of the f-150 had similar lights, not sure why they skimped on the XLT. I don't want or need the giant towing mirrors and their spot lights, just some down lighting along the side of the truck. I've thought about putting some LED strip lighting along the underside of the cab or frame or running boards, and I guess I could find a way inside to tie it in to the cargo light. Anyone come up with a simple and elegant way to do this? Any circuits in forscan to enable to activate a connector somewhere?
