2018 XLT Sport
Hello All,
I am new here (First Post) I have a question that has been asked a few times but not about the 2018 F150's. I tried to add a tailgate light bar to my truck but when I try to plug it in the truck detects a trailer. my question is if I clip into the wiring harness behind the plug will the truck still detect a trailer? and if so does anyone have a suggestion on how I can get around this??
Thanks
Mike

What tailgate bar do you have? So far as I know of only the Putco wiring option works to not have the "trailer connected" message. I have the putco bar installed and it works perfect. You can google or search here for the 2018 wiring diagram but I think you would need a specific one for your manufacture of the LED light bar.

I believe you need to connect it to the tail lights, instead of the trailer wiring harness. If you connect it to the trailer harness, it thinks you connected a trailer, where if you connect it to the tail lights it doesn't know any difference. They're separate circuits now where they used to be the same wires in older vehicles.
