Default New guy - Rigid question

Little background: long time lurker, with a new-to-me 12 5.0 SCrew. I'm new to Fords and pick-ups in general, and am looking for some advice and guidance. This place is a wealth of knowledge and innovation, so thanks. My only "Mods" are some bright interior LEDs (the inside of the SCrew is huge) and an Extang Solid Fold for the bed.
I come from a Grand Cherokee and loved my stock headlights and high brights (high beams, whatever you call them). The GC has two different high and low bulbs, which is different than the F150 with the single, dual function bulb. I don't want to sound like a baby, but the truck's highs are totally lacking compared to the GC's. So after all that, it leads to my question: will a pair of D2 or D2hd driving lights, ideally mounted on either side of my center-mount license plate, give me plenty of brightness and good beam "throw" / distance for night driving on rural roads? Would love to hear from people with D2/HD drivers.

Getting WAY ahead of myself, would it be dumb or completely unnecessary and impossible to wire up a cool OTRATTW colored LED switch for said driving lights?

Thanks for any input!

should do excellently for what you're thinking of. And yes, the OTRATTW is overkill, but a lot of people prefer the look of them over the supplied switch from Rigid. And the D2 should be heavy enough - the HD just has a reinforced case, no extra light output. The location you're using is fine for a regular D2
