Default Getting rid of HID

Hello!

I have a 2013 F-150 that currently has HID headlights. One of the lights went out and I want to replace both headlight assemblies because they are in very poor shape. I want to convert to LED but I am having trouble finding an adapter or conversion kit; they all seem to be to go from halogen to HID and not the other way around. I need to go from 4 pins down to 3 to fit the LED. Picture is of current headlight plug-in, part number 33471-0401. The ballast and everything for the HID are built into the headlight assemblies that I'm getting rid of; this plug connects directly to the outside of the headlight assembly. Any suggestions on how to go to LED?

Does your truck have factory HIDs or is it an aftermarket setup? That looks like the stock halogen plug for the main lights. Negative and positive for low beam and high beam. The plug looks the same as my headlight plug on my 2018. What bulbs are you trying to install with 3 wire connection?

Apologies if due, for this side note. I've seen no LEDs DOT certified for on road use... And read others agree who have dug into this. Even the best seem to blind me. Nor have I seen any with the sharp cutoff that some halogens offer.

I am trying to find a way to connect the three-pin stock lights to this four-pin female plug. Are there any adapters I can use?

As far as I can tell, the truck has factory HID. The ballast and everything is built into the old headlight assembly that is in really rough shape that I'm getting rid of.

Are you serious? Have you actually looked at headlights with proper hid or led projectors? Most halogens do NOT have a sharp cutoff, however, LED and HID projectors do have the sharp cutoff. Halogen projector headlights have the cutoff, but they are not as common. Now, led or hid bulbs thrown into halogen housings do not have the crisp cutoff projectors do.

Just pick up a set of used oem hid headlights. Those are some of the nicest headlights ever in a F150. FX4 had a black housing hid light, Raptors had a dark grey housing hid light and the KR and higer trims had chrome housing hids.

I am serious, bit also agree than very many halogens do not have a sharp cutoff. However I have seen it be very common in Germany in the 70's, but less common in the US. The reflector and lens must each play a part in this. I wish I knew more about it. I do see it here, but not as regularly as decades progressed. As bumps in the road occur, you can see a sharp line on the truck lid of the car in front, move forward and back, but never above the bottom of rear window on most roads. Below the line, evenly bright bright bright.

Europeans, especially Germans, have have fewer decades of experienced drivers, and are really fussy about adding to safety by doing little things well. Roads are small and crowded so forward lighting is a big deal. But some US cars have or had this with old halogens.

That said, I am looking to fix my very aged lenses and am not above HID, if an old vet can afford a good functioning unit, and not just buy it to have tiny round lights and "feel cool." Give me function. If the form following the function is ugly, that's cool with me.

Its unclear what OP is trying to do...

Is he trying to replace the entire light assembly with an after market LED assembly?
Is he trying to retrofit an after market led bulb into the facrory HID assemblies?
Is he trying to retrifit an led bulb into aftermarket halogen assemblies?

Unclear...

Anyway...having owned a 2013 with the HIDs from experience...the bulbs do over time wear down and get dimmer.
My advice is to just go buy a new set of oem HID bulbs for the factory assemblies for the truck.
They were pretty darn good as I recall!!

Not sure why they are in rough shape...
If so its worth it to just get a set of new HID assemblies and have at it!!

Scroll back to 02/09 at 2:22 pm.
Seems clearly stated ...
Think his lens is foggy, and he probably has old dim bulbs...

I know of no STREET Legal *AfterMarket* LED.
None In the SF area fail to bother, head-on.
