I installed these on my truck the other day and now I’m getting flashed like crazy with low beams on. It looks like these have a lot of ambient light shining up in the trees. Anyone had this issue ?
They also need to be oriented in the socket correctly, LED chips facing side to side if not they ruin the reflector pattern casting light all over the place. Make sure of proper installation and orientation in the housing, then a proper aiming session, take into account the extra illumination adjusting accordingly. I set my cutoff 2+ inches low at 25 feet. KM
^what they said. Does your truck have halogen housings? If so it's going to be bright as hell no matter what. But if they are not aimed correctly boy they sure can create one heck of a glare

I never knew it was illegal. Probably a good thing it Is though because I probably wouldn't have any vision left by now
You need better bulbs that were properly designed to work in your headlight housings, I've been running GTR Lighting Ultra 2.0 bulbs for about 2 years now and I never get flashed because the beam pattern is excellent. They are worth the money because they are way brighter than stock, and they project much further down the road without scattering light everywhere. They also honor their lifetime warranty without making you jump through hoops. These bulbs still aren't street legal when used in headlamps, but because they perform properly and don't blind people, there's no reason for anyone to pull them out and check them. Just like how my custom tune passes an emissions check so no one has any reason to look at what calibration file I'm running or question it's legality.

I'm not sure what housings would offer similar light output for the $240 price, but what I can tell you is that these lights project so far down the road and have such a sharp cutoff with the factory halogen reflector housings that they are very much comparable to the average factory HID of LED headlamp in how they light up the road. I work on cars for a living and drive plenty high end vehicles with headlams that cost $2000 each and these GTR lighting Ultra 2.0 replacement bulbs really do work just as well as most of the factory HID/LED lighting I've seen. A high-end HID or LED retrofit would blow both out of the water, but at that point we're no longer talking about a sub-$300 project.
The DOT vs street legal thing is there because used as fog lights they are legal, but they haven't been officially approved for use as low beams in headlamps, so they are street legal when used as fog lights, but not DOT approved for use in headlamps. That being said, I doubt anyone would run into trouble running them as low beams because of how these actually perform. I've been running these lights for two years now along with several friends, relatives, and customers, and none of us have had any trouble with people flashing us or getting stopped and questioned about our lights because they do not scatter light or blind people unlike the cheaper options that have given both HID and LED conversion bulbs a bad name.
