Default Aux reverse light switch question

Can someone point me in the right direction? im looking for some info or even a thread that has my question answered. i know its probably been answered a hundred times. i've installed my reverse auxillery LED's, spliced into my 7 pin adapter. they work great. now i wanna upgrade to a switch mounted in the truck. on/off/reverse type. manually turn on the LEDs (get off my @zz), off, and a position where they only come on while in reverse. is there a wiring harness thats pre-made? a diagram would help a lot.

You'll need to get a SPDT (single pole, double throw) switch. Do you want the switch to have LEDs that light whenever you put it in either position? Are you powering your lights through a relay, or directly from the trailer harness?

I have Rigid's SRM Back Up Kit.
I really enjoyed their fully loomed wiring harness. It'll do everything you want it to. Hole size in the dash was 3/4" if my memory is correct. 3 way position - AUTO / OFF / ON.

if its easy to wire the switch to illuminate then i would like that, but i dont think its necessary. currently my reverse lights are powered through the 7 pin trailer harness.
something i've wondered is...if the aux lights only pull minimal amps, and a common switch can handle that load, why is a relay necessary?

ok Mr Davis, this is pretty much what i was trying to find. i thought it would be cheaper to piece-meal a wiring harness by buying all the components separate, but $55 aint too bad. i'll have to read over all the info but i think i can work with this. Tango Mike.

I'm not sure what current rating you actually have in mind for a "common switch"; but for a couple small draw LED lights a relay really isn't necessary as long as the switch is rated accordingly. It will just reduce the wear on the switch. If you were switching a couple halogen lights or something else with a higher current draw, it'd be a different story.

Whatever you decide to do just keep posting in this thread or PM me and I'll try to help the best I can.

im going to go ahead and use the relay but it might be a while before i get to it. better safe than sorry.

thanks to bulletsforfingers and benchwarmer for your wiring and switch mounting knowledge.
i decided to take a little different route. i like the location and the install of the switches but didnt want to completely loose my little storage bin so im changing things up a little.
i used the same plexi glass but heated and bent it about 2/3rds of the way so i still have room for my wallet and phone.

then found an old leather US Army planner and im gonna cover the plexi glass with it so it will "almost" match my interior.
