These lights that came with the power steps are ok, but I already have one that came off a few days after installing it (I just taped it and didn't drill a hole to run it through the pinch weld but its zip tied so it doesn't fall far but it would still be falling with the pinch weld hole as its 3m tape on). If I were to buy a longer/more secure/brighter light strip or kit, could I fuse it to the same wires that the amp step lights are currently on? I heat shrunk the butt connector when I put these on, but I don't think it would be too difficult to get them unconnected.

I did this exact same thing with mine. I purchased LED strip lights with adhesive backing and stuck them on and wired them to the AMP wires. Works great!
awesome thank you. I wasn't sure if the power needed would be different and mess it up. Now to figure out how to un shrink the butt connector lol. thanks

I just cut off the butt connectors and soldered mine together and used heat shrink tubing. You can always replace the connecters with new ones that should be available at about any auto parts store if soldering is not your thing.
Ahh ok I wasn't sure about cutting off parts of the wire (assuringly with them unconnected to the battery and modules). or if I could just reheat the shrink and pull them out I'm sure its not as bad as I'm making it out in my head. Which light strips did you get by chance? Amazon and similar truck websites have a gazillion different options and I don't know nothing about nothing when it comes to led strips for the bottom of the vehicle.

I believe I ordered them from Amazon. It's been a while. I just picked ones with good reviews and with a black circuit board so they wouldn't show up too bad. I got a roll of it where you can cut every foot or so to get your length.
thanks man. I greatly appreciate it. these amp 3m ones (with the size and wire from the light side) don't lend well to staying stuck very well, and they aren't bright enough to justify worrying about retaping them, or gluing them, since the output isn't much.
Sorry to bump my own old thread, but I found some lights that work with the amp harness. Ill post a pic of them, they have two wired sides and I am guessing that you just measure 7 or 8 feet from each wired side and cut them and hook them up to one of the sets of wires on each side. My question is, when I cut these, what is the best way to seal the silicon casing back shut? I first thought a lighter or the heat gun, but then I was thinking that may mess up the lights. Then I thought gorilla glue, shoe goo, or some sort of silicon, but again I wasn't sure. Also since each side will only require one set of the red and black wires, and there will be a left over amp light wired, can I just leave it there or should I disconnect that light and shrink the wires into a butt connector and close the other side? Sorry I have never dealt with light strips before so I wanted to make sure I did it right the first time so I didn't have to solder and seal the left over set and rewire it if I messed up the pre-wired ends.
its these lights. Sort of underglowish but it will only be when the steps come out and go off when they go up, as in the video I think that guy had them wired to the harness on the frame, which my truck does not have anyway.

I think a lighter on the end of the cut strip would be fine, but you should have a little excess to try that if you're worried about doing too much - honestly, some glue over the end would be just as effective, as would a little silicone/dielectric grease with shrink wrap over the top. Make sure you only split the strip at the indicated points in order for it to still work.
Don't worry about powering them through only one connection, or about the remaining un-used connection, i just wrapped my connections in heatshrink for the time being, i haven't decided which lights i'm going to fit/use.
Thanks Madmax, it seems you are always dropping knowledge on me haha. Yeh I did that with mine for a while and finally put the amp lights on. They aren't bad, I really just wish I had puddle lights so this will be a little closer to having them. If it doesn't matter, I was planning on just leaving the extra light connected and leaving it where it is, or zip tying it up underneath somewhere since its already shrinked and taped.
