Default Adding LED lights

Just wondering if any of you guys have added any LED extra lights to your truck and did you run into any problems out of the ordinary?? I added 4 - 4" LED lights on my tool box. I am using the trailer plug for power. Problem is... the turn signals work ok but, when I connect the tail lights and are on, when I put the turn signal on ( right or left) they flash very dim. I was told to put a load equalizer to the turn signal hot line. Has anyone else ran into this problem.... Let's hear it guys....

The problem is, yer truck - like all the 09+ trucks - utilizes a SJB for lighting management & control.

When you deviate from the design loads on any lighting circuit, you can expect problems to arise.

To solve yer problem, run a dedicated fused, switched 12 volt source direct from the battery, using standard exemplary wiring safe-practices ( wire loom, soldered & waterproofed connections, properly-sized automotive-grade wiring, relay switching, etc, etc).

good luck

MGD...thanks for your comment but, I realize their is a problem. These computerized trucks ARE the problem....lol That being said, I was looking for a definite resolution for my problem. I have put dedicated fused lines and switches in for other electrical add ons. I was looking for an answer for my particular situation with tail lights and turn signals...

Roger that. That was what I was trying to do, lol.

Quick test: if you disconnect the Led's from the trailer plug do yer turns resume normal operation? If so, it's a load out-of-range issue. Also, Some Led arrays have been known to have 'noisey' drivers - these can interfere with the SJB if connected directly.

BTW - are these added to the turn functions on the trailer plug?

You can try adding load resistors across the Leds, or use an interposing relay to switch the Leds with either the turns or the trailer plug as the trigger. This isolates the load completely from the circuit.

Default LED lights

MGD... I really appreciate your input...you are totally right. It was MY mistake from the beginning. I had a bad ground. Now that I put the ground to the truck frame all is GOOD... Thanks once again for your input... Oh, by the way, by using the trailer plug for power for the turn signals, brake and tail lights, I didn't have ti install a load equalizer....
