Default What Plow?

Buying a mew property with a substantially larger driveway and decided on a plow set up verse a snow blower. I have a 2012 F150, XLT 5.0, with the 6.5 bed. A friend of mine owns a Boss distribution/installation company (my father has also owned boss on his two previous trucks) so I’m leaving that way. I see they have 7’ and 7.5’ which appeared to be geared towards the 1/2 ton trucks, however when I plug my truck info on to their website it says no plows work. I don’t trust that as the photo on the web site shows a newer F150 with a plow on it...

Once I make the move I plan to reach out and get my friends feedback, however I figure there might be some owners here with plow set ups (Boss or not) they would recommend. I would only be plowing my property, and a handful of other driveways, so not a heavy use set up, but I don’t want one of those tiny cheap looking plastic set up’s.

If you read your manual, you'll see that your truck is not equipped to plow. There is a plow option that could have been ordered with the truck, which basically shuts off unnecessary systems so that the truck can handle certain plows. Without that, you'll find that only fixed blades, often plastic, are usable.

I have a 7'6" boss sport duty plow on my plow prepped 2016 XLT 301A 5.0L. last year was my first year with it and I had no issues. I do mine,my parents and sometimes my father in-laws driveways.

The plow did come off my 05 F150 so I knew how the plow acts already.

I like my boss plow. Be used Fisher and Western in the past I like the boss the best

For you to mount a medium duty plow, you need brackets that attach to your frame horns. Due to the age of your truck, those may be no longer in production, or the covid labor shortage forced them to drop them at least temporarily. The best answer on that will come from the company.

I haven’t thought of that. I hope that’s not the case as I don’t want to go with a used plow.

We don’t have many (or any?) homeowners here who have their own plows, just isn’t warranted.

However in terms of what I see the contractors have it is usually Boss or Western.

Im sure there are different grades of them, for personal use you wouldn’t need a crazy heavy duty one like they use.

Did you have to make any changes to mount up to the newer truck, or was it plug and play? OP can just buy a newer plow for his truck if any modifications are within his ability.
