Yeah, sorry. I forgot that without the trailer tow pkg the pigtail is only the 4-pin plug for a U-Haul trailer. The correct pigtail plugs into the same place under the truck and has both the 7-pin RV plug as well as the 4-pin U-Haul plug.

Contact a good Ford discount parts dealer and order the the 7-pin trailer harness pigtail. You'll probably need the VIN of he truck. Here's the dealer with excellent service that I use.

Getting ready to install the Ford OEM Brake Controller on my 2017 F-150 XL which came with the standard tow package. Bought the OEM controller from a Amazon selling Ford dealer (Jerry's Ford) online and watched the videos on how to access the plug behind the area where it gets installed. Looks doable but concerned the 12V power lead may not be wired from Ford at the fuse panel under the hood. Seen other postings that the 2018 models without the max. tow package don't have the fuse slot for the brake controller wired there (blank slot). Will find out later today once i get under the hood and check for the 30A fuse being there or not. If not, eTrailer.com sells a 30A wiring kit just for this installation for under $30 that runs power from the battery back into the truck under the dash to the brake controller harness. Really hope I don't need to mess with doing the wiring but picking up a new RV in 10 days and need this to be working before then.

I also found a bag in the glove compartment with some sort of electrical trailer tow harness part no. FL3T-15A416-AB.

The trailer I am considering has electric brakes. I was hoping the tow package would handle this, but what is this harness for? Do I need it for electric brake control? I am completely out of my element here. The tow package was a $900 adder, so why do I have to install something with basically NO installation instructions?

Any insight is greatly appreciated...

I know this is an old thread, but can you tell me if this is the harness you're talking about? I have the same question. Thanks
