Imagine 2100#s pushing down 4 feet behind the rear axle!? I bet a set of sticky drag radials and the torque from the new diesel and you could do wheelies.

My thought on the whole thing is that it doesnt matter what the truck is, the same trailer is going to unload the front the same amount all else being the same. A diesel cover up this problem becuase it adds so much weight to the front axle that the unloaded weight may not be that bad. I see guys around here with 3/4 and 1 tons that probably dont technically require WDH, but their rear ends are crushed down just like any half ton.
Actually, I don't see 2,000 pounds pushing down on the hitch of a 1 ton long wheel base diesel being a big deal without weight distribution. Those front wheels are over 13 feet forward of the rears (crew cab short bed example) or about 3x the rear axle to hitch distance. So that 2,000 pounds of tongue weight is only causing ~670 pounds of lift on the front. Now consider that the front end on a diesel weighs ~1,000 pounds more than the same truck with a gas engine. The weight on the front of the diesel with a 2,000 pound tongue weight is still substantially more than the exact same truck with a gas engine when the gas truck is towing nothing. The diesel will laugh at that 2,000 pounds of tongue weight and the front will never feel light. Due to the extreme forward weight bias of 3/4 and 1 ton diesel pick-up trucks, weight redistribution when towing is not only not necessary, but it is often counter productive and results in too much weight being removed from the rears. This is the part of towing with a big diesel that most people discount. That anchor over the front axle sure helps stability- it's not just about the torque.
