Default TT Towing

Hi,

I have a 2007 4X4 F150 Supercrew Lariat 139" WB Styleside 5.4 FFV V8 Engine, Electronic 4-SPD Auto O/D
Preferred equipment PKG. 508A, 3.73 Ratio w/ limited slip axle, 7200# GVWR package
added Firestone Ride-Rite air bags

I have a 23' TT that weighs 4190lbs unloaded. I am wanting to get a 26' TT that weighs 6000lb unloaded.

Will it work?

Shouldn't be any problem. Need specifics on your truck RE: payload capacity, tow capacity, etc.
But 3.73 gears are made for towing.
I have 3.55 in my FX2 and tow a 7400# loaded (6,000# dry) TT. No problems.
You lose a couple hundred pounds of tow capacity with the 4X4, but should still be able to tow that trailer.

On first brush you will be OK with that.

With that in mind it would be nice if you posted a little more about the truck and the trailer. Saying the TT is 6000lb dry is a bit of an open ended statement. That can translate into something entirely different when it is loaded and ready for camping.

Thank you for the response. Sorry for the limited info on truck and TT. I usually camp at KOA where its full hook up. So, TT is pretty empty while towing. The only load is my family of 2 kids and girlfriend, food, etc.... If we for get things we just buy it on camp grounds. Don't sound like camping when its full hook up and a store on site, but the kids like love it. Thanks again.

Flippin - the best way to determine this is to weight the truck to get your exact rolling weight. It is best to do this with the GF and kids and any gear that you would take camping and PACK IN THE TRUCK. Remember you can pack it in the trailer an only have to deal with a portion of its weight transfering to the truck. Now, being I have an 05 FX4 same drive line and cab as you and I checked online, your specs are about the same as mine, with a tow cap is up over 9000lbs, and your combo (truck and trailer max, or GCWR) is 15000lbs. However, the problem is really in our payload or that the trucks GVWR is only 7200. Our actual payload capacity is the trucks GVWR minus Truck w/fuel tank of gas - you - GF - Kids - gear packed in truck. For example My truck GVWR@7200lbs minus Truck gas/hard Tonnue etc @5900lb = 1300lbs remaining - 700lbs (me/wife/ 2 teenagers/dog etc) leaves 600lbs of payload for trailer tongue weight. Now that you have your remaining payload your can mathmatically calculate the range at what I would suggest as the max GVWR for the TT you would look at would be. If you get a light tongue weight transfer of 10% your looking at a TT w/GVWR of 6000lbs (600lbs divided by 10%). If it is on the heavy end or 15% your at a GVWR of 4000lbs. The majority of TTs (not towhaulers) tend to have a GVWR of 800 - 1200lbs over the dry weight and a tongue transfer of 12.5% and at 12.5% you could get a trailer with a GVWR of 4800lbs. Again, getting an exact weight on the truck by weighing loaded and ready to go (incluing your WD hitch) it can make a difference, as you could easily loose or gain over 100lbs from estimate weight. And at 12.5% tongue weight transfer, a 500lbs payload cap = a TT GVWR of 4000 and 700lbs left = TT GVWR of 5600lbs.
