Default Trailer plug confusion

I have a 2007 F250 with a tow package. The plug in the bumper is a 7 pin round configuration with one pin larger then the rest. I can't seem to find this anywhere. Do I need an adapter to run a regular 7 pin config? I am renting a RV trailer in a few weeks and want to be prepared, I have never used this truck for towing and was wondering what is the best solution.

A RV should plug right up.

Do you mean 6 flat blades in a circle with a round pin in the middle? That is standard RV.

For a long time that was a common plug found on livestock trailers and industrial/ag applications. Most everything is gravitating towards the RV plug as the standard 7-way now, since that's what all the newer trucks come with. You'll probably have to make an adapter if you don't want to change the socket to an RV type. You can probably buy an adapter to go from RV to industrial, but not the other way around. That plug you have is fading into the sunset. P.S.- If you fab your own, make the ground wire 10 gauge, since it carries all the return load. Good luck.

For 35 years has pretty much been the standard set up for RV plugs and vehicle 7 way receptacles for RVs

That is NOT a 7 way RV plug. An RV plug has 6 flats around a round center pin and the wiring configuration is completely different.

The easy way to do that would be to buy the trailer plug wiring harness for your exact truck from Ford or eTrailer.com. The trailer plug wiring harness goes only from the plug at the rear bumper back to under the bed where it plugs into the master OEM wiring harness.

I think this is the correct Ford part, but double check with the parts desk to be certain before you pay your money.

I'm guessing if you talk to a trailer place or the dealer, they should have a standard 7 pin assembly, so you can remove this one from the harness and just plug the standard 7 pin in and mount in the same spot.
I've never seen that type of plug config before and we have all sorts of ag in my area...
