Towing package question
I JUST PURCHASED A 2017 F-150. Listed under "STANDARD EQUIPMENT" is a Class IV Trailer Hitch w/Smart Trailer Tow Connector. Under "OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT" is a Trailer Tow Package for $895.00. I don't know what I am supposed to receive extra for the money and can't find the info on the Ford website. Can anyone tell me the difference in the two items?
Thanks!
Thanks!
This is what is included in the trailer tow package for the 2018 models.
I'm pretty sure it was the same for the 2017:
Includes:
• 4-pin/7-pin wiring harness
• Auxiliary transmission oil cooler
• Class IV trailer hitch receiver
• Pro Trailer Backup Assist (not included on XL Base)
• Tailgate LED (standard on LARIAT and higher)
• Smart Trailer Tow Connector (standard on LARIAT and higher)
• Upgraded front stabilizer bar

The hitch is just a receiver hitch with trailer wiring harness.
The 2017 regular towing pkg adds Pro Trailer Backup Assist, upgraded front stabilizer bar, and the biggie - auxiliary tranny oil cooler. You don't want to tow more than a Ski-Doo without that tranny cooler.
The 2017regular towing pkg does NOT include the towing mirrors or integrated trailer brake controller. You need to add both those options in order to have a safe towing vehicle.
On my 2015 I only have the regular tow package (7-pin, brake controller etc) and the payload package and I don't have any issues with heat towing my travel trailer which is 5000+ lbs loaded up, or my boat (7500 lbs). I don't think I have the auxiliary transmission cooler because I don't ever remember reading it anywhere in the options. The highest temp my transmission has seen is 206 and that's on a steep climb. I wish I could find more details on the packages but they seem to have been removed from the internet when the new models came along, and the packages always change year after year. I DO have the brake controller for example.
