RV sizing help
We have a '13 SCAB, XLT, 145" wheelbase, Max Tow Pkg, but no HD Pkg,
We are looking at a 30' Cruiser XT276 RV trailer toy hauler which would weigh in at 7,600 lb loaded with the Mrs., dogs, H2O, and a Goldwing. I don't think from reading this forum that my SCAB would have any trouble with that at all.
However, there is a 35.5' Kodiak toy hauler that weighs would weigh in loaded about 8,900 lbs.. It would be nice to have the extra room but I don't want to if it is not safe or damage the 150.
Is that too much too ask of the F150? I'm concerned not only about the weight but also the extra 5 1/2 feet. Would it be the tail wagging the dog?

boy 870# hitch weight is quite a bit! ..i assume your eco-3.5 its all about your payload i.e. the yellow door jamb with you gvwr with is all of your stuff hitch weight plus all stuff in truck..its all that is = or less then the door jamb number your good!
I think 35.5' is to long for any 1/2 ton especially one with only 145" wheelbase. The most important thing is not exceeding your GVWR and rear axle rating. The Ecoboost has the power to tow either of those trailers without breaking a sweat. Its the actual tongue weight you need to worry about. Especially when it comes to a toy hauler. Your Goldwing has to be around 1000lbs, will that be loaded in the front or rear of the toy hauler??? With a traditional travel trailer it is much easier to figure out what you're tongue weight will be compared to a toy hauler. Depending on what your yellow sticker says you have for payload you should be good with the 30' at 7600lbs with a quality weight distribution hitch.
Even with a good WDH like Equalizer, that is a lot of trailer for your truck. And a Weight Distributing Hitch is a MUST. I think RVWholesalers.com has good prices on Equalizer.
Also make sure that you get an electric tongue jack on your travel trailer. Makes hooking up the Equalizer easy
The added weight from the goldwing should be to the rear of the travel trailer. As all tow haulers I have seen have the cargo space in the rear. Your truck will tow the trailer. Watch the tongue weight. Any trailer over 3500# (I believe) has to have a wd hitch.
I tow a 31 Rockwood with an Equalizer hitch with only one issue. Its to darn long in my opinion. The truck can handle the weight. I am going to a 25-26ft fifth wheel.

My 150 is an EB, Thanks to all who wrote advice on this subject. The answers confirmed that hauling a 35' RV weighing almost 9K would not be a good idea. We will be sticking with the smaller one.
