Default Repacking wheel bearings

What type of wheel bearing grease is everyone using when repacking their wheel bearings? I use Lucas red n tacky but am second guessing after replacing 2 outer and 1 inner bearings today after only a year since I did them last? Also, how much do y’all back off the axle nut? I do between a 1/8 and a 1/4 turn from being tight depending on how much play is in the hub.

Check your shop manual My '02 E-350 required a preload of 10ft lbs on the nut with a repack, yours could be different

Per Dexter if you have Dexter axle; https://www.dexteraxle.com/docs/defa...sn=7e5f1648_14

Follow instruction to the letter and you'll be fine. I inspect and relube every 6-7000miles since i might drag trailer thru water crossings sometimes.

Dexter says just back off nut to nearest slot for pin, from finger tight. 1/4 turn too much.

I use walmart brand wheel bearing grease and have no problems, but then I take it apart twice a year.

Timbrens have slightly different instructions.

Ignore color changes, unless its rust or water. Inspect , repack, retorque every yr or 12,000 miles is what most makers says.

I use cheap as long as its marked wheel bearing.. I check and repack every spring...camper toy hauler not seen 14ft boat and 5x9 utility..and 24ft old camper frame/flat deck for sxs and ATV's.. also carry spare sets of bearings for them..luckly it's only 2sets... 3 share the same bearings and boat/utility is the other set

wrong quote... was meant for the dextor axle/rubber torsion axles
my toy hauler was like that when I first bought it..I dont think the other owner cared for it..had to service/clean the front axle...replace brakes on the back axle...

Any wheel bearing grease should be fine. But rather than buying several types & dispensers, I just put Valvoline Ford disk brake grease in everything.
