Default Pulling a smaller trailer

I'm going to be pulling a 4000lbs trailer and I have the hitch but not the electrical. I bought a trailer electrical part but am not sure how to instal it to get the blinkers, running lights and break light to work. Advice?

A great source for things you might need is etrailer dot com.

Go to Amazon and type in f150 trailer wiring harness.
You should be able to source a trailer plug that simply plugs into your existing rear wiring harness. It’ll have simple instructions.

That weight, you need a 7 pin connector for the trailer brakes.

I doubt he's running trailer brakes based on his OP.

Is there not a 4 way connector under the bumper?

And at 4,000 he may not need trailer brakes or only surge brakes.

OK, some kind of brakes. We don't know what kind of trailer he's pulling. 3000 lb or more, you are required to have some sort of brakes.

There is currently no hookups for a trailer that I can see. My trailer does use the round connector and I do want my trailer brakes to work as well.

take a picture of your round connector and post it. Your bio notes a 1980 F150. Correct? Sounds like you’ve never done anything like this before? I doubt you’ll find a plug and play 6 or 7 pin connector for your model truck, tapping into a 46 year old wiring harness is probably going to be required.

Yeah, you are looking at hardwiring a trailer connector along with brake controller.

As suggested, etrailer is your go to.
