I set up the assist on my deck over trailer and it is by far easier just to back it up myself then use that back up assist I do not find it works very well at all, I can do it quicker by just backing it in myself and I'm no dinosaur only 28 years old

I think to many people think its something like teslas autopilot. It doesnt back a trailer up for you, it merely eliminates the need to countersteer and will apply the brakes if you drive to fast. At least thats the impression ive got from talking to some folks. I find that using it allows me to not have to think about countersteering and concentrate on putting the trailer exactly where i want it. Obviously you still have to pay attention to where your front end swings out too and with no camera on the back of the trailer i use a spotter. Im not a trucker with a million miles of driving experience nor am i a rookie but imo anything that makes life a little easier is great lol. It came with the truck so why not use it and i still like the surprised looks i get when people see the steering wheel move on its own😄

I still back up the "old fashion" way but I do use it to fine tune a tight parking spot. Great to use if backing up a ways in a straight line.

This might actually come in handy with a tiny jetski trailer that you can't see in your mirrors, etc. But a skid trailer, na....

I swear backing up an empty jetski trailer makes people think I don't know how to do so.

My truck has it. Haven't used it yet. I'm certainly proficient at backing trailers of all sizes. I fully plan to try it out this summer. If it makes backing easier, even with my (literally) decades of experience, I'll use it.

Technology is there to (usually) make our life better, I see no point in having it and not using it if it takes workload off the driver and allows you to put that attention elsewhere. Like paying more attention to your surroundings as you are backing a trailer...

This.

I remember backing up a single sea-doo trailer a number of years ago.

Don't see anything. . . . . don't see anything. . . . jackknifed trailer.

I was also thinking the best use for it is boat ramps when you cant see the trailer and they jack knife quick as hell

Its def something you need to get used to. My biggest complaint was that it wouldn't turn as sharp as you could. The back up cam is knife for seeing how close you are to jack knifing.
