Default Payload sticker not adding up

2025 f150 PB King Ranch payload sticker 1242 lbs. Weighed in at separate cat scales 3 times. 6220 lbs each time. Gas tank full, 200lb driver, 35lb tonneau cover, 8lb hitch, and 5 pounds of stuff. Sticker shows GVWR 7400lbs. 7400 - 6220 =1,180. Other stuff 200 + 35 + 8 + 5 =248. 1180 + 248 =1,428. 1428 -1242 =186lbs above the sticker rating. Anyone else have similar experience or other explanation? Thanks!

Since you've gone to the cat scales that's the number you should go by, payload is just GVWR minus curb weight, it's not some guaranteed figure in reality, even though it's put on a sticker on the vehicle. Could largely be explained by how full your gas tank is, also.

Thanks for the response! Topped up the gas tank each time. Couldn't help noticing the difference is near the weight of 30 gallons fuel which is my tank size, but who knows. Cat scales are 20 pound increments, so looking at +/- 10lbs. I'll go with this for now.

Yes I had a 2020 F350 dually that was a few hundred pounds low on the payload rating. Cat scaled it too kinda like you did.

This is why you should scale your load after getting a base line.

Thanks. I’m not the only one. That’s good.

I was guessing from your first post that you have a powerboost based on your GVWR.The 30 gallon tank confirms that.

Unladen weight includes a full tank of gas.....But sometime I wonder which tank they are allowing for. The 23, 26 30 or 36. Your weight and the other stuff you added to the truck are easily accounted for

I also have questions on payload for instance 2 24 F150s STX 2.7 PB both identical with options except one is 4WD and one is 2 WD the 2 WD payload is 1646 the 4WD is 1620 given the transfer case, front axles etc only a 26 lb difference? and both frames are HD frames I thought before there was a 300 lb difference in payload with previous years

without the individual GVWR of each truck hard to say whether this is strange or not.

Wondering whether the 4x4 truck was equipped with Heavy Duty Payload package. I think there is far more wiggle room in payload numbers than Ford says. I put 1000lbs in the bed over the rear axle. It really didn't phase the truck much at all

I think that’s unlikely in this particular case, HDPP was gone by 2024.
