We did have a slight intrusion of the weight police, but it got squashed.

It may have been tongue-in-cheek, but one never knows.

Great thread. I should post my soon to be combo over there (Just bought a 5'r on Saturday). The user Dodgefather1 claims that he 'doesn't even know his 5'r is back there'. Ummm I doubt that.

Rv.net can be just brutal on the 1/2 tonne 5'r crowd..

Tell me about it. I joined shortly after getting the fiver and commented about buying a strong truck to pull it. Some 3500 guy saw my sig and responded that the EcoBoost is a sham. I bit my tongue to keep from telling him that his 3500 was still just a Chevy.
I've even seen comments to the effect that HT trucks have no business towing much more than a utility trailer.
I guess their HD manhood is being threatened by the new Ford F150s.
However, look at the beating this guy took on our forum:

Well he kind of came in swinging so to speak, without the knowledge to really back it up. He did get a few thumps but not quite as bad as I've seen... He really did seem like a good guy though.

I've never understood that expression. Maybe I just haven't driven a "real" truck () but I sure haven't pulled ANY trailer, even empty ones, that I would ever describe as "didn't know it was back there".

From the same people who bring you: "Just buy a diesel and put airbags on it."

I think the trailer marketing has a lot to do with what folks subject their trucks to, regardless of 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton, be it diesel or gas. Every advertisement I've seen as well as just about every toy- hauler type trailer pulled, is hooked to a pickup. A 40ft weekend warrior will gross anywhere from 17-19,000 lbs, give or take. By this rating alone, anything less than bare bones 1-ton is insufficient. I am not picking on the toy hauler crowd at all, it's just a common sight in my area. I came from an '04 F-250 and to be completely honest, I never once looked at what my max tow rating was, couldn't tell you. I just figured as long as I didn't hit the bump stops and could stop the trailer well enough I was fine. I pay a lot more attention now simply because I'm in a half ton truck.

If you don't have a 1 ton diesel you have no business pulling a trailer! I cant stand some of the ignorant fools on RV.net! I will never forget the first comment some idiot made when i was questioned about my setup. I was replying to someone that asked about how much weight i load in my trailer when ready to camp and this idiot comments and says that 1/2 tons are useless and his wife would have my truck overloaded with just her shoes never mind anything else.... I will never understand why they think a 1/2ton towing 7-9000lbs is unsafe but there 1 tons towing 16-20,000lbs is OK ???
