No problem hawling. the bigger the tarp, easier the clean-up. Try to use a tarp without any metal grommets or rivets, depending on water content you may be able to pull out the tarp with most of the mulch on it.

It's soil that weighs a ton. Literally for a yard. More when wet.

This is more than a yard and much heavier than just mulch. Don't be me and decide a tarp wasn't needed.

1 yard of dry mulch = 600 lbs, 1 yard of wet mulch = 1,200 lbs. 1 bag (2 cubic ft) of dry mulch = 20lbs. 1 bag (2 cubic fr) of wet mulch = 40lbs.
My previous house I would get 50 bags at Home Depot/Lowe's each year. With a HDDP it would sag a bit but was fine. Bags are so much easier throwing it on your shoulder and carrying it up a hill or across spring time muddy grass.

Actually, none at all. The tail-gate was up for the trip and the speed limit was 30.

This is ~ 1.36 cubic yards of mulch and top soil. Total weight was ~ 1,436 lbs. (I weighed a couple of bags at home to find out -- they were damp but not real wet.) The mulch alone would have been ~ 1.11 yds @ 1,200 lbs. I was probably carrying ~ 300 - 350 lbs. over capacity with a passenger and some tools in the cab, but it was no problem at all. Your main issue will be keeping it in the truck, so a tarp will be useful.
