Could anyone tell me some actual hitch weight numbers? My truck is rated for 9200lbs towing with 1970 lbs payload. I'm actually considering trading in my '16 F150 for a '16 F250 which is gonna cost me around 6K to do.
Plan will be to tow from FL to TN at least 2X a year and shorter trips on top of that. I have 3 kids and a wife and the campers we like are around 7K. If say the 10% hitch weight is accurate that leaves me with little over 1200 lbs. My whole family and their stuff is approx. 650lbs but the 3 kids are young and growing. Now I'm at still 550lbs for growing kids and a heavier hitch weight and/or more stuff in the bed of the truck?
Question is are the average hitch weight of the campers I'm seeing on this forumn much more than 10%. I'm thinking I can keep the truck's weight down by loading everything in the camper including the 2 dogs.
