Dont forget to add the roughly 100lbs for the WDH. The number I see most often is 13% as ideal. Between 10 and 15. 13% at 7750(my personal GVWR) puts you at ~1000lb tongue at GVWR max. Plus 100 for the hitch. 1100 used from the start.

Yes, a travel trailer really handles a lot nicer with more weight on the ball, so figuring 13% average tongue weight is the goal. Keep the trailer weight under 7000 pounds with the F150 and your family and you should be OK. Of course, it pays to weigh, so getting the weight of the truck with all the family and gear in it with a full tank of fuel before doing anything will go a long way for letting you know how heavy the trailer can be. If you can go to a larger truck like the F250/350, you will find it will be a much better towing experience in the end without the worry of it going over GVWR as the kids grow.

Default 2019 F150 5.0 & Northtrail 31BHDD

2019 5.0 & 3:55 with 2” Level Kit only, nothing added to the rear. I’m using an Ez Hitch 10000# WDH. Camper is 6399 empty and IDK how much it weighs now but it’s not a whole lot more than that. We keep a minimal amount of stuff in it so I’d say less than 1k lbs added. One of these days I’ll scale her.

For a lower TW increase and more stable towing. Look into a Propride or Hensley hitch. They will change TW between about -25 and +50 lbs (this is based on many reports of actual weighings). Reason is the physics of levers. Both hitches add about a foot of distance between the pivot at your trailer axle and where the weight is added to the truck. Most everyone who has gone for towing on a ball to one of these hitches report significantly better handling. Downside, they do cost more. I am very happy with my Propride. My trailer was scaled at 7050lbs and 950lbs TW. This was with an empty FW tank. I normally tow with around 50% FW and my FW tank is at the back of my trailer, so my normal TW is lower than when it was weighed.

What model camper is that? Seems like a great weight for that size. Nevermind, you put it in the title sorry!

my 2019 5.0L 6.5 ft box towing the same jayco 32 rls.
its about 38' bumper to tongue.
the camper is getting close to 10k loaded to travel from summer to winter sites.
i used reese 10k wd hitch.
the bed of the truck is loaded with gear and tools as well.
we camp year around, one site for summer, one site for winter.
about 80 miles apart, i tow twice a year.
about 55 ft long total.
about 16k gross weight.
the longer wheel base f150 tows it better than my V10 pooper duty.

How did it handle? I have a 2019 Ford F-150 XLT sport I know its towing capacity is rate 10,800 I am looking at a 6,800 lb trailer wet. I am still debating weather i want to put a small 3 to 4 inch lift, but am afraid it may affect my towing
